Celine Gabrielle is a self-taught, emerging artist based in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her curiosity and passion have driven her to develop a bold and compelling artistic voice. Beginning her career in 2019 with a focus on painting, she has now expanded into a variety of mediums including installation and sculpture in 2022. Known for her vibrant use of color and meticulous attention to detail, Gabrielle’s work explores themes of identity, belonging, and the profound influence of culture on our lives.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I'M A WINNER/LOSER BABY examines the tension between success and failure through a series of photographed trophies—symbols of achievement, validation, and the absurdity of external recognition. Stripped of their original contexts, these trophies become artifacts of aspiration, ego, and self-worth, questioning what we celebrate and why.
The images present a glossy, almost comical reverence for awards, yet beneath the shine lies a deeper commentary on the societal pressures that dictate our definitions of success. Do these symbols empower us, or do they reinforce our fears of never being “enough”? How do we measure our worth? What happens when the applause fades? Through this lens, I'M A WINNER/LOSER BABY invites viewers to reflect on their own victories, failures, and the weight we assign to both.
