ARTIST BIO
Cherie Daly is a Toronto-based abstract painter whose work is deeply influenced by nature, movement, and the expressive possibilities of color and form. Her artistic journey began at Central Tech’s Adult Art Program, where she explored various mediums before focusing on abstract painting under the guidance of artists like Suzanne Metz.
Daly splits her creative time between her shared studio at 100 Sunrise Ave in Toronto and her custom-built studio in Muskoka, where the natural surroundings inspire her dynamic compositions. When not painting, she finds inspiration walking along the Beach boardwalk in Toronto or through the wooded landscapes of Muskoka with her dogs.
Her dedication to abstraction has earned her recognition from the Oshawa Art Association and the Federation of Canadian Artists, Toronto Chapter. Her work has been exhibited at esteemed venues such as the Federation Gallery in Vancouver, the ADC Fine Art Show in Cincinnati, and The Artist Project in Toronto.
With a practice rooted in exploration and intuition, Daly continues to develop her unique visual language, capturing the energy and emotion of the world around her.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a fairly quiet person, but a very loud painter. Where I might hesitate to make my feelings known verbally, I let my paintbrush speak.
I paint quickly, mainly with acrylics, using blends of bold primary colours and very physical, full-arm strokes. My internal dialogue and feelings are translated through movement into the work using a variety of mark-making tools.
My process is playful and free. The work is left raw, retaining its energy and initial vitality. Not seeking perfection, I strive to find beauty in the unplanned while creating space for the viewer.
