ARTIST BIO
Elissa Davis is a visual artist focusing on figurative paintings infused with messages. Elissa is currently producing a series of mixed media paintings titled, The Open Minds & Giving Hearts Tour. This series explores the social challenges women face in modern day American culture. Elissa is especially focused on the solutions women can bring forth in today's ever-changing social landscape in regard to equality and their quality of life in America.
Elissa works full time as an artist and in October 2024, Elissa hosted a solo exhibition with Blue Streak Gallery in Wilmington, Delaware.
Elissa received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Delaware for Figure Painting.
In 2024, Elissa was awarded the Opportunity Grant for portraiture from the Delaware Division of the Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My 2025 series, The Open Minds & Giving Hearts Tour represents my perspective and beliefs regarding modern day American culture for women. As a lifelong American citizen, I am able to share my perspectives regarding challenges women face such as our identity and perceived value in American culture. My inspiration for the subjects in the paintings is from women living in a multi-cultural population and their interpretations, responses and adaptations towards modern day challenges.
My primary objective is to paint what I believe in and what I feel is relevant to our society such as keeping an open mind & a giving heart regarding, race, age, mental and physical abilities and gender & sexual identity to name just a few. It is my belief that when a culture supports women's social structures, recognizes their achievements and promotes their contributions, then all individuals will be protected and honored.
