Drawing from her experiences as a high-functioning special needs child, Melanie’s art tells intimate stories of overcoming adversity, celebrating the delicate balance between fragility and strength. ARTIST STATEMENT
As a contemporary sculpture artist, I create intricate geometric abstract artwork that combines traditional origami with modern techniques. My work merges geometric precision with abstract forms to explore themes of resilience and transformation. Using durable art paper and a cutting machine for precision, I fold and paint each piece with acrylics to control the mood, reflecting personal experiences of adversity and persistence. Influenced by my journey as a high-functioning special needs student, I focus on the strength found in vulnerability. My sculptures invite introspection, encouraging viewers to connect with their own stories of resilience and hope.
