ARTIST BIO

Patrizia Brasch is a contemporary mosaic artist, living and working in Toronto. She works with various materials and uses their colours, textures, reflection, and transparencies to convey a message or express any of the wide range of emotions and sensitivities we experience as human beings. As a result, each of her mosaics has its own narrative to tell its unique story.

Patrizia’s mosaics have been shown in juried exhibits and galleries in Canada, the US, Italy, and Germany. Her work is in private collections across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Patrizia is a co-founder and organizer of Ontario Mosaic Artists contemporary mosaics exhibitions, a member of Mosaic Artists of Canada, Society of American Mosaic Artists, Contemporary Mosaic Art, and serves as a board member of Artists' Network Toronto.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The underlying intent of my art is to convey a message, an idea or concept, or to explore the wide range of emotions and sensitivities we experience as human beings.

Working with a variety of materials, I make use of their colours, textures, reflection, shapes, and sizes, to create my mosaics that tell their own story, and hopefully give viewers something to think about.

Equally important in my mosaic practice is upcycling - taking what we consider worthless or useless and transforming it into something useful. I combine scavenged corroded metal, considered worthless and ugly, and pair it with both precious and semi-precious materials to offer these “worthless” materials a new life and purpose, and to contribute to the mosaic’s statement.
