THIS EXHIBIT OF OIL PAINTINGS OPENS A WINDOW TO MAGICAL WORLDS – ENCHANTED LANDSCAPES WHERE IMAGINARY FIGURES HIDE IN FAIRYTALE FORESTS, FLOAT THROUGH CELESTIAL SKIES, OR DEFIANTLY FACE TURBULENT SEAS.  THESE ARE PLACES AND STORIES WHERE DEEP FEELINGS MEET THE MYSTICAL AND FANTASTICAL.

MANY OF THE PAINTINGS ARE MEANT TO BE JOYFUL AND PLAYFUL.  YET, WITHIN THE COLOURS AND DETAILS, THEY MAY REVEAL A MIX OF CONTRADICTORY EMOTIONS. WONDER LANDS IS A JOURNEY FROM LIGHT TO DARK AND BACK AGAIN.

Cindy works from her studio in Connecticut, USA.

When I make art, I travel to an interior fantasy world, a place where I express a level of joy that goes beyond what I can convey in real life.  Other times, entering the world of my art allows me to explore difficult feelings and experiences. I see the flip side of life’s challenges in fairytale landscapes with limitless possibilities.

By crossing the boundary between the real and the imagined, each of my paintings is a portal into the unknown. I discover light and dark twists, hidden meanings, and visual surprises. The whimsical tone can have a surprising relationship to complex feelings in real life, helping me to express something deep inside myself.  I want to take viewers into magical worlds where they can discover and explore their own emotions.

I feel a powerful impulse to paint in a way that is joyful and life-affirming.  Even when the future of the world seems bleak, I know that making art will take me to another world where I can daydream, believe in the impossible, find humour, hope, and beauty.
